Electric cars are not popular in Ireland

dublin_electric_carsJust 44 electric vehicles were sold in Ireland in 2011 according to latest figures. Such a paltry sales record is likely to mean that Ireland will not reach is 2020 target of having 10% electric cars.

Large government subsidies would be required to get Ireland on track. Currently the Irish government subsidy of 5,000 euros towards the car cost but the ESRI reckons that more than 50,000 euro per vehicle would be needed.
